Mastering the Master’s
Kobby is going off to do his master’s this year, Nadia just finished her master’s dissertation and Elom saf has one more exam till he’s a certified Charted Accountant and you my dear friend are still with the company you did NSS with or you’ve found a new job. So, when you are asked why you haven’t started a second degree or a professional certification what are you going to say?
You having just a first degree isn’t in any way a sign of you failing at this adulthood thing, no on the contrary you are doing okay, but you can do better. Yes, there are a list of things that may stop you from getting that degree.
First and most importantly, what on this green earth are you going to study?! There are hundreds of courses that you can choose from. If there were only two options for master’s, life would be easier wouldn’t it? But it’s nowhere close to easy. Okay so let’s assume you have finally chosen a course, yay the stress is over, but is it? Now let’s pick the school. Again, if it was either A or B you would know exactly where to go but the schools available to you are more than the variety of bottled water available to you. Now you know what you want to study and where you want to go, but there might be some standardized tests that you may need to take, so that one too dey. Funding too is an issue. That one year program costs more than your four years in Legon or Tech, chale.
Pretty sure you get the picture, right? Getting a master’s degree may seem like a daunting task, but that doesn’t mean it’s an impossible feat because many people before you have done it and many after you will do so too. You don’t have to come up with a perfect solution at this very moment but know that you will have to solve the problem at some point in time, so start psyching yourself for it because like winter, it will come. At some stages you need to make the decisions and you will have to take that step towards that master’s. Don’t worry, it will all work out.
